Sixth Form students from McAuley Catholic School in Cantley, Doncaster took part in an Engineering and Surveying Careers afternoon with Engineering Consultancy, Opus International Consultants (Opus) recently.
The six formers participated in a range of practical and problem solving workshops, including laser scanning and traffic speed monitoring, to give them a taster of wide range of areas that form the services of an engineering consultancy.
There was also the chance to hear from technical staff, and the career path that they followed, including ex-McAuley Sixth Formers Rachael Bryson (Project Manager) and Ellen Lishman (Transport Planner).
Rob Shenton (Head of Sixth Form) said: “The students were particularly impressed that Opus with an office in Doncaster, has so many international offices. The ability to access these global opportunities from a local business was a real draw.”
The careers afternoon was a fantastic demonstration of how businesses and the education sector can collaborate.
Rachael Bryson said: “We’re delighted that since our team visited the school, we’ve already had one pupil join us to gain some work experience during the school summer holidays. We see more potential for these opportunities in the future.”
