Maintenance was a key driver in this project so each individual section of the structure was designed to be demountable.

The project presented several challenges including:

 

  • Designing the ramps to be DDA compliant with suitable tie in approaches to its use as an addition to the Thames Link Cycle Network
  • Accomplishing stiffness (due to lightness of steel) by infilling the main columns with concrete and an array of reinforcement
  • Designing an array of piled foundations to fit amongst a multitude of statutory services crossing the site
  • Maintaining the aesthetic appearance by accommodating the M&E and drainage in the design

FE analysis enabled the design team to reduce the weight/size of the steel sections used and provided significant cost savings to Murphy. Maintenance was a key driver and each individual section of the structure was designed demountable.
