Seeing children suffer from sickness or accidents is heart-breaking to say the least. Being able to provide a safe, warm and colourful environment for them during a tough stage in their lives can ease their pain.

Opus’ geotechnical, civil and structural design has helped 30,000 young patients through the doors of a new state-of-the-art children’s hospital since it opened in May 2015.

Undertaking extensive work on the £60 million final phase of the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales, Opus provided geotechnical, civil and structural design while supervising these aspects during the construction of the six storey building.

Taking care of the existing patients was also at the forefront of our minds as we helped relocate the paediatric facilities to other areas of the hospital whilst the new building was constructed.

The overall design was aimed to put children at ease with warm, child-focused interior design, tailored features and themed artwork, ultimately allowing the patients to still be children.

"The new building is spacious and provides comfort and dignity to the patients coming to us." ~ Dr Allan Wardhaugh, Clinical Director of Acute Child Health in Cardiff and Vale.

The Children’s Hospital has been named Project of the Year by Constructing Excellence in Wales.  Opus worked as part of Interserve Construction’s team and this award demonstrates the high level of collaboration and ability to work as a truly successful team.
