Opus surveyed nine roads in the Croydon area, as part of a wider project for road improvements.

The Leica ScanStation P20 laser scanner was chosen to collect the data on this site, as it combines ultra-high speed (up to 1 million points a second) with excellent data quality. Using the laser scanner meant that the surveyor to be able to safely access the carriageway to measure the detail and therefore a huge Health & Safety risk was avoided altogether.

As part of the work, the team were able to remove the noise (unwanted data collected caused by the passing of pedestrians and vehicles) to produce a clean data set.
