Providing an improved environment for the existing neonatal facility.

The existing neonatal unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport South Wales is currently being considered for refurbishment by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, in order to provide for an improved environment for the facility.

Opus is providing site investigation and structural engineering services for these proposed alterations. It all comes with the usual logistical problems of working within a busy, acute hospital environment, on a constrained site and with a restricted budget.  All a challenge in themselves.

The client’s brief is that the existing unit has to be relocated temporarily, on another ward within the Hospital, whilst the main refurbishment works ensue. Another key driver is that the adjacent Hospital departments have to remain functional during the whole of the construction process, with a great emphasis on infection control and privacy.
